★Mushrikeen-e-Arab kaahinon arraaf'on aur nujoomion ki khabaron par bhi imaan rakhte the. kaahin use kehte hain jo aane waale waaqiaat ki pesh goi kare aur raaz haai sar basta se waqifiyyat ka dawedaar ho. Baaz kaahinon ka yeh bhi dawa tha ke ek jin unke ta’be hai jo unhein khabrein pahunchaataa rahta hei. aur baaz kaahin kehte the ke unhein aisaa faham ataa kiyaa gayaa hai jis ke zariye weh ghaib ka pataa lagaa lete hein. Baaz is baat ke muddai the ki jo aadmi un se koi baat poochhne aataa hei uske qaul wa fa'l se yaa us ki haalat se. kuchh muqaddmaat aur asbaab ke zariye weh jae waaridaat ka pataa lagaa lete hain. Is qism ke aadmi ko arraaf kahaa jaataa tha. Masalan woh shakhs jo chori ke maal, chori ki jagah aur gum shudah jaanwar waghairah ka pataa-tthikaanaa batataa.

★अरब के मुशरिक काहीनो, अर्राफों और नजूमियों (ज्योतिषियों) की खबरों में आस्था रखते थे. काहिन उसे कहते हैं जो आने वाली घटनाओ की भविष्यवाणी करे और छिपे रहस्यो को जानने का दावा करे. कुछ काहिनों का ये भी दावा था कि एक जिन्न उनके क़ब्जे में है जो उन्हें खबर पहुंचाता रहता है और कुछ काहिन कहते थे कि उन्हें ऐसा विवेक दिया गया है जिस से वे ग़ैब का पता लगा लेते हैं. कुछ इस बात के दावेदार थे की जो आदमी उनसे कोई बात पूछने आता है उसके कहने-करने से या उसकी हालत से , कुछ कारणों के जरिये वे घटनास्थल का पता लगा लेते थे. इस प्रकार के व्यक्ति को अर्राफ कहा जाता था , जैसे वह व्यक्ति जो चोरी के माल ,चोरी की जगह और गुमशुदा जानवर आदि का पता-ठिकाना बताता

★Moreover, they used to have a deep conviction in the tidings of soothsayers, diviners and astrologers. A soothsayer used to traffic in the business of foretelling future events and claim knowledge of private secrets and having jinn subordinates who would communicate the news to him. Some soothsayers claimed that they could uncover the unknown by means of a granted power, while other diviners boasted they could divulge the secrets through a cause-and-effect-inductive process that would lead to detecting a stolen commodity, location of a theft, a stray animal, and the like.
