★और हजरत साद बिन अबी वक्कास रज़ि० और अब्द बिन जमआ के दरमियान जमआ की लौंडी के बेटे अब्दुर्रहमान बिन जमआ के बारे में जो झगड़ा पेश आया था , वह भी जाना पहचाना और मालूम है , अज्ञानता युग में बाप-बेटे का ताल्लुक भी अनेक प्रकार का था , कुछ तो ऐसे थे जो कहते थे "हमारी सन्तान हमारे कलेजे हैं, जो धरती पर चलते फिरते हैं" लेकिन दूसरी ओर कुछ ऐसे भी थे जो लड़कियों को रुस्वाई और खर्च के डर से जिन्दा जमीन में गाड़ देते थे और बच्चो को भुखमरी के भय से मार डालते थे । लेकिन यह कहना कठिन है कि यह ज़ुल्म बड़े पैमाने पर चल रहा था , क्योंकि वे अपने शत्रु से अपनी रक्षा के लिए दूसरों के मुकाबले में कही ज्यादा सन्तान की जरूरत महसूस करते थे और इसका एहसास भी रखते थे

★With respect to the pre-Islam Arab’s relation with his offspring, we see that life in Arabia was paradoxical and presented a gloomy picture of contrasts. Whilst some Arabs held children dear to their hearts and cherished them greatly, others buried their female children alive because an illusory fear of poverty and shame weighed heavily on them. The practice of infanticide cannot, however, be seen as irrevocably rampant because of their dire need for male children to guard themselves against their enemies.
